Patriots agree to four-year deal with RB Rhamondre Stevenson

As the offseason moves along, the New England Patriots secured the long-term future of running back Rhamondre Stevenson with a four-year, $36 million deal.

The contract includes $17 million guaranteed while keeping him in tow as a primary piece of the puzzle. He was entering the final year of his rookie contract, which holds a $3.1 million base salary for the 2024 season.

His new contract makes him the seventh highest-paid running back annually.

Since entering the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft, he’s been a constant source of production for the Patriots. In 41 games, he has 2,265 rushing yards with 14 touchdowns while averaging 4.5 yards per carry along with 121 catches for 782 receiving yards and a touchdown.

The 26-year-old is coming off a solid campaign with 619 rushing yards and four touchdowns along with 38 catches for 238 receiving yards. He is also a year removed from his first 1,000-rushing yard season in 2022.

With Ezekiel Elliott’s departure, he could become the bellcow option in the backfield. He will have plenty of opportunity to establish himself in the significant role that his new contract suggests he should garner within the offense.

“I think he’s one of the better backs in the league, no doubt about it,” first head coach Jerod Mayo said at the team’s mandatory minicamp two weeks ago via ESPN. “I’m excited to see what he does this season, and look, he’s earned everything that he gets.”
