Malik Monk agrees to four-year, $78 million contract extension with Kings
Ahead of next month’s free agency, the Sacramento Kings agreed to a four-year, $78 million deal with guard Malik Monk.
The contract is the maximum offer the Kings can present to keep him from entering the open market. He is expected to sign the new deal once the NBA’s moratorium ends on July 6.

The Kentucky product is coming off another highly productive campaign off the bench. He scored a career-best 15.4 points and 5.1 assists while shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 35 percent from beyond the arc, which earned him the runner-up spot for the Sixth Man of the Year award.
The 26-year-old is a key piece of the puzzle for the Kings as an offensive spark plug behind his scoring prowess and playmaking as a passer. Last season, he became one of two players in the last 25 years to notch 1,000 points and 300 assists off the bench.
Retaining his services gives the Kings a highly dependable offensive option alongside All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray, and Harrison Barnes.

In the first two seasons under head coach Mike Brown, the Kings have become a consistent factor in the stacked Western Conference. Last year, Sacramento finished with a 46-36 record but fell just short of reaching the playoffs.
Monk played a key part in the Kings snapping a 16-year playoff absence while snagging their first Pacific division title in over two decades.
The Kings have assembled a young core group that can return to postseason action next season.
