Jets HC reveals whether Aaron Rodgers will play in preseason
As the preseason quickly approaches, it brings forth the question of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ availability to play in the preseason.
Head coach Robert Saleh confirmed that the four-time league MVP is unlikely to participate in any of the four games before the start of the 2024 regular season but left the window open for the possibility of the 40-year-old taking the field.
“I want to leave it open,” Saleh said via ESPN. “That third game [Aug. 24 against the New York Giants] is the one where we’re deciding. He definitely won’t play the first two.”

Saleh’s stances shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that Rodgers missed nearly all of last season due to a torn Achilles tendon.
The Jets are approaching the situation with great caution, given the severity of his injury. New York is leaning on Rodgers to lead the charge this season after going all-in with their offseason moves.
At the same time, Rodgers did voice that he’s willing to play in the preseason if the opportunity if given to him.

“Yeah, I mean that’s Robert’s decision,” Rodgers said. “I’ve never told him I don’t want to play in the preseason. There are a lot of thoughts about whether there’s any particular gain from it…If he decides he wants me to play against the Giants, I’ll strap it up.”
Rodgers could potentially play in the preseason, but the Jets aim to get their star quarterback on the field for the season opener on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers.
