Cowboys star Micah Parsons dealing with high-ankle sprain

The Dallas Cowboys got back on the right track in Week 4 with a 20-15 road win over division rival New York Giants on Thursday night.

However, the victory came with significant costs as star pass rusher Micah Parsons suffered a left high ankle sprain against the Giants. Defensive end Demarcus Lawrence is expected to miss several weeks due to a right midfoot sprain that forced him to exit early against New York.

Parsons’ injury occurred when he was pass rushing from the middle, and Giants guard Greg Van Roten fell back onto the back of Parson’s leg. He left the game, was taken to the locker room by a cart, and took X-rays.

Lawrence’s injury happened in the third quarter while he was chasing Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. He stopped to change directions, limping off the field. To avoid a further setback, he was held out of the rest of the game for precautionary reasons.

“D-Law’s is worse than Micah’s,” coach Mike McCarthy said via ESPN. “I don’t have a specific timeline but we’ll get into that probably a little deeper Monday, but I do know there will be second opinions involved with both of these guys. They are worse than we anticipated.”

The loss of Lawrence and Parsons for any lengthy stretch of time leaves a massive void for their pass rush. Lawrence leads the team with three sacks, while Parsons has recorded at least 13 sacks in each of his first three NFL campaigns.
