Chiefs fear WR Rashee Rice has suffered a significant knee injury

The Kansas City Chiefs edged out the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4 to remain undefeated in their quest to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

The Chiefs’ journey just became significantly more difficult after standout second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice suffered a right knee injury that the team believes to be a torn ACL, which would effectively end his 2024 season.

“I’m sure it’s not as good of news as we want,” Reid said via ESPN.

The injury occurred after quarterback Patrick Mahomes collided with Rice as he attempted to recover a fumble during an interception return. Mahomes dropped down, leading him to run into both of Rice’s knees, which looked to have hyperextended his right knee.

He required help to get off the field, where he was examined by the team before being taken to the locker room on a cart. His absence leaves a massive void as he has become one of Mahomes’ primary options in the passing game.

He holds team-best numbers with 24 catches, along with 288 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs will look to rookie Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Travis Kelce to pick up the slack.

Kelce put together his best performance of the season against the Chargers with seven catches for 89 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Worthy hauled in three catches for 73 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Kansas City is already dealing with speedy wideout Marquise Brown being out for at least the rest of the regular season due to shoulder surgery.
