Kevin Stefanski continues to stick by Browns QB Deshaun Watson

The Cleveland Browns headed into this NFL season with high hopes of becoming a legitimate Super Bowl title contender, with star quarterback Deshaun Watson healthy and back on the field after only playing 12 games over the course of his first two seasons with the team.

Although Watson is healthy and has played in all six games thus far, he has only managed to lead the team to one win, as Cleveland seems to be one of the worst offensive teams in the league right now. Watson looks like a shell of his old form while playing for the Houston Texans, a major concern for the Browns moving forward.

Despite the avid Browns fanbase and every media outlet calling for the team to bench Watson, head coach Kevin Stefanski continues to stick by him via Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.

“I think Deshaun gives us the best chance to win, continues to give us the best chance to win,” Stefanski said Monday when asked why he wouldn’t insert backup Jameis Winston as the starter. “We need to play really good offensive football at his position, and really at every position to be successful.”

Stefanski claims that team owner Jimmy Haslam isn’t forcing him to keep Watson as the team’s starting quarterback despite his inability to get this offense back on track during the 2024 campaign.

“I don’t get caught up in narratives, but we have a good dialogue with myself, [general manager] Andrew [Berry], ownership about all things that have to do with this team. They’ve been nothing but supportive, and any decision when it comes to football is my decision.”

If the Browns continue to lose with Watson looking like the primary reason why they can’t turn things around, Cleveland’s brass will have to make a move or this season will be a lost cause as well as the seasons to follow if the veteran quarterback remains the starter.
