Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama drops career-high 50 points in inspired performance

San Antonio Spurs star big man Victor Wembanyama notched a career-high 50 points fueled a career-best eight made three-pointers in Wednesday’s win over the Washington Wizards.

Wembanyama’s stellar outing made him the fourth-youngest player and youngest center in NBA history to score 50 points.

“My first thought is eventually I want the rest of our performances, the rest of our games, to overshadow this one,” Wembanyama said via ESPN. “I want to make it where in the future, [this is] just another one.”

The 20-year-old also set the record for the fastest to reach that mark in only 26 minutes played. He achieved that feat in only his 83rd career game, which is the fourth-fewest games required since the NBA/ABA merger.

He has become one of the league’s top players behind his two-way talent as an elite rim protector and promising offensive scorer. Wembanyama’s strong shooting from beyond the arc in his career-best scoring performance underlines his unique offensive skill set.

He’s putting forth a strong start to his second campaign, averaging a double-double with 22.7 points and 10.5 rebounds along with a league-leading 3.7 blocks while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor and 33.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Wembanyama holds the opportunity to make a serious push for the Defensive Player of the Year award while continuing to take another level forward with his offensive production.

Through the first 12 games, the Spurs hold a 6-7 record, putting them just one game behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth spot.
