Aaron Rodgers opens up about future with Jets
As the New York Jets head toward the close of another disappointing season, the focus has shifted toward star quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ future.
The four-time league MVP has suggested that he wants to play another year, but that hasn’t cemented if that will be in New York. Rodgers has once again voiced that he would like to play another campaign with the Jets.
“If they want me to stay, fantastic,” Rodgers said via ESPN. “If it takes these five games, maybe they don’t know what I bring to the table. But that being said, I’d love to play really frigging well the last five games.”
It has been nothing short of a frustrating season for the Jets, sitting well outside the playoff picture with a 3-9 record. Rodgers’ production has been well below his standards, ranking 19th in passing yards and 25th with a 48.4 quarterback rating.
New York has struggled to find any offensive consistency, ranking 23rd in passing yards, 26th in points per game (18.8), and 29th in rushing (87.3). The Jets have yet to score 25 points while falling below 20 points six times, including failing to hit double-digit scoring twice.

Rodgers is signed through the 2025 season, which includes four void years through 2029. If he retires or traded, he holds a $49 million dead cap hit for next year, which is more than double the $23.5 million salary cap hit.
If the Jets designate him for a post-June 1 cut, the dead capt hit can be split to $14 million in 2025 and $35 million in 2026. Ultimately, it will likely come down to the franchise’s desire to go another season with Rodgers.
