Alex Caruso agrees to three-year extension with Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder secured another piece for the long haul by agreeing to a four-year, $81 million extension with guard Alex Caruso.

The new deal comes only a few days after Caruso became eligible for an extension on Saturday. He is currently playing for $9.9 million this season.

In his first season with the Thunder, Caruso has fit into the mix seamlessly as a key piece off the bench behind his stout defense and steady production. He’s averaging 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 38.5 percent from the floor.

Caruso has established himself as one of the league’s top defensive guards have seen him earn all-defense first team in 2023 and a second team nomination last season.

He has been a key piece in helping the Thunder rank first in the league in defensive rating (103.0), opponent points per game (103.1), opponent field goal percentage (42.6%), steals (12.1), and opponent 3-point percentage (32.9%).

Caruso and Lu Dort have formed a formidable defensive backcourt duo that has significantly impacted the Thunder’s identity on that end of the floor.
