Eagles’ Jalen Hurts suffers injury in loss to Commanders
The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a tough blow to their chances of securing the top overall spot in the NFC playoff picture after losing to the Washington Commanders in Week 16.
The loss featured star quarterback Jalen Hurts exiting the game in the first quarter after suffering a concussion. Backup Kenny Pickett nearly pushed the Eagles to their 11th straight win, but rookie Jaylen Daniels led the Commanders on a late touchdown drive in regulation to grab the impressive road win.

The Eagles’ quarterback situation became more concerning after Pickett was seen getting X-rays after the game. The Pittsburgh product stated that he suffered a rib injury and would undergo further testing on Monday.
Pickett was tackled by linebacker Bobby Wagner early in the fourth quarter, causing his injury. However, he remained in the game and helped lead the Eagles to a go-ahead field goal with less than four minutes left in regulation.
Pickett may likely avoid missing playing time, but the Eagles will closely monitor the situation. He finished the game by completing 14 of 24 passes for 143 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
“I’m happy that [Pickett] came in because that gives him confidence, regardless if we got the win or loss,” said wide receiver A.J. Brown via ESPN. “God forbid anything happens [with Hurts in the future]; he came in and he got the experience.”
Meanwhile, Hurts has only entered the concussion protocol, which puts his status in Week 17 at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
If he misses next week’s game, Pickett will likely make the start. A win against Dallas would secure the NFC East division title for the second time in the last three seasons.
