Veteran RB Miles Sanders signs short-term deal with Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys added more firepower to their backfield after agreeing to a one-year deal with running back Miles Sanders.
Sanders was recently released by the Carolina Panthers after signing a four-year, $25.4 million deal in 2023.
His time with Carolina saw him struggle to get footing as the primary option. He lost the starting job late in the 2023 season to Chuba Hubbard and he kept he spot last year.
In fact, Hubbard’s stable performance earned a four-year, 33.2 million extension last November.
In two seasons, Sanders compiled 637 rushing yards and three touchdowns, which featured him coming off posting a career-low 205 rushing yards.
The Cowboys are taking a low-risk, high-reward move with Sanders pairing him alongside fellow offseason addition running back Javonte Williams.
Dallas is taking the depth game plan over a solidified starter leading the charge. Last season’s starter Rico Dowdle, who posted a career-high 1,079 rushing yards, joined the Panthers on a one-year deal.
It leaves an opportunity for Sanders to latch onto a significant offensive role. Throughout his career, he’s shown that he can be a flexible option, which he could work as a change-of-pace back.
