Aaron Rodgers remains undecided about his NFL future

Since being released by the New York Jets before the onset of free agency, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains without a new NFL home.

Rodgers has talked to the Minnesota Vikings and, most recently, the Pittsburgh Steelers, but that hasn’t translated to him signing a contract to play the 2025 season.

During an interview on The Pat McAfee Show this week, the four-time league MVP offered some clarity concerning his next steps.

“I wasn’t stringing anyone along. I wasn’t holding anyone hostage,” Rodgers said via ESPN. “I was honest from the jump about where I was at mentally and some of the constraints I have in my life right now that warrant my attention.

“I’m open to anything and attached to nothing. Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now my focus has been — and will continue to be — on my personal life. And that’s what I’ve told the coaches. There’s still conversations that are being had. It’s all been very honest lines of communication.”

Although Rodgers continues to take his time with his decision, it does leave teams such as the Steelers in a bind, waiting to see if he will join them.

It leaves them without their starting quarterback for next season, while possibly seeing him miss out on valuable offseason workouts to build chemistry with his new teammates if he does choose to sign there.

Rodgers may not have a sense of urgency to decide his NFL future, but the clock is ticking for him to make up his mind.
