Suns team owner admits season was a ‘failure’
The Phoenix Suns are coming off a disappointing season, during which they failed to make the NBA playoffs.
Phoenix, led by its three stars in Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, finished out of the play-in tournament.
The Suns played well below expectations, which has put a strong level of scrutiny on team owner Mat Ishbia.
“Embarrassing season, right?” Ishbia said via ESPN. “Disappointing. Awful. I watch every game like all you guys do and no one’s proud of it, no one’s happy with it, from me, to the front office, to the coaches and players, to the marketing executives to the security guards.
“It was a failure.”
Last offseason, Ishbia caught a lot of attention after voicing that made light of the franchise having no first-round draft picks in 2025.
“Ask the other 29 GMs, 26 of them would trade their whole team for our whole team, our draft picks, and everything as is,” Ishbia said. “The house is not on fire. We’re in a great position. It’s not hard to fix.”
The Suns now sit as the only team in the league without a draft pick and are out of the playoff picture. The organization now sits in much uncertainty after firing head coach Mike Budenholzer after one season, while Durant appears to be moving toward possibly being traded over the summer.

Phoenix could also look to explore trading Beal, but that path is tricky due to his no-trade clause and the likely underwhelming interest in his services around the league after a disappointing season.
Ultimately, Ishbia and the Suns are likely to head into a busy offseason that will bring many changes ahead.
