Jaguars make unexpected move to trade up for Travis Hunter
The Jacksonville Jaguars shook up Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft by moving up to the second overall pick to select Colorado standout Travis Hunter.
The Jaguars acquired the pick from the Browns in exchange for the fifth overall pick, a second-round selection, a fourth-round pick, and a 2026 first-round selection. Meanwhile, Jacksonville also acquired a fourth-round pick and a sixth-round selection.
New general manager James Gladstone voiced his excitement to Hunter, which he believes could be a franchise-altering move.
“There are players that you can target and acquire who alter the trajectory of a game. There are players that you can target and acquire that alter the trajectory of a football team,” Gladstone said via ESPN. “There are very few, and it’s rare to be able to target and prioritize a player who can alter the sport itself. And Travis is somebody that we view has the potential to do that.”
The reigning Heisman Trophy award winner is coming off an impressive campaign where he showcased his talent as a two-way talent. He notched 96 receptions for 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, along with four interceptions and 36 total tackles.

The Jaguars are expected to play Hunter on both sides of the ball to begin his career. He will begin on offense while being worked into the defensive scheme increasingly as he grows more comfortable in that role.
Jacksonville is all in on Hunter playing a significant role as a key offensive contributor while he develops into a high-impact defensive back.
