New Panthers WR Hunter Renfrow makes stunning admission
New Carolina Panthers wide receiver Hunter Renfrow is set to make his NFL return after missing the 2023 season.
During his introductory press conference, Renfrow revealed that he dealt with ulcerative colitis that caused him to drop from 185 pounds to 150 pounds last year, which played a significant factor in choosing to step away from the NFL.
All that led to him doubting if he would ever be able to play again.
“I felt so bad those two years, and I felt like I let my teammates down so much,” Renfrow said Thursday via ESPN. “Because I had expectations. I just signed a new contract [in 2022]. I had a new coaching staff that I was going to be perfect for. And I was just a dud.
“I was like, ‘Man, I know I don’t feel well, but I do not want to play football again. Like, I do not want to let people down. I just want to go over here in my corner, do what I do, get into business.'”
Renfrow enters a new opportunity to re-establish his NFL career as a key component in the Panthers’ offense. He has shown that he can be a big-play factor through his breakout 2021 campaign, where he earned his lone Pro Bowl selection after posting career-highs across the board with 103 receptions, 1,038 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns.

The Panthers are hoping to take a significant leap forward with second-year quarterback Bryce Young after more skilled position talent such as Renfrow to the mix.
