Cowboys’ Schottenheimer sends message to team after Micah Parsons trade
In the aftermath of the shocking Micah Parsons trade, the Dallas Cowboys have become the target of considerable criticism for trading one of the best defensive players in the NFL.
Although team owner and general manager Jerry Jones has taken the brunt of the blame for the trade and being reluctant to pay Parsons what he wanted, new head coach Brian Schottenheimer is the one who has to rally his team and prepare for Week 1 against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Schottenheimer claims “nothing’s changed” moving forward in terms of his team’s goal heading into the start of the 2025 campaign, via Todd Archer of ESPN.
“Nothing’s changed. My goals haven’t changed, Our team goals haven’t changed,” Schottenheimer said. “I hit the players on that today after I talked about just the tough couple days for all the guys, and it doesn’t change. The standard is the standard. I said that. With all the new pieces and people we had in there, I needed to hit the goal, which is to win a world’s championship. I needed to hit that we also want to build one of the greatest professional sports cultures in the world. That’s part of the deal when you add new pieces, you have to make sure they understand your vision.”
Although the constant criticism isn’t ideal for the Cowboys, Schottenheimer believes the timing of the trade gives the team a chance to focus on taking on their division rivals.
“The positive thing about [the timing of the trade] is we’re into a regular seven-day cycle with Philadelphia,” the coach said, “and it’s one of those things that now we get to focus on Philly.”
At this point, it’s impossible to predict how this blockbuster trade will be remembered or impact the storied franchise, as the team has been here before after trading star running back Hershel Walker, which was criticized in a very similar way and ultimately proved to be the right move for Dallas.
