Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence blown away by Travis Hunter’s explosiveness
There is a renewed buzz around the Jacksonville Jaguars with incoming rookie wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter.
Among those excited to take the field with the reigning Heisman Trophy award winner is quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
“Ball skills, running after the catch, he’s very explosive,” Lawrence said Monday after the Jaguars’ first organized team activity via ESPN. “Just didn’t realize how explosive he was in and out of cuts. He’s impressive to watch and we’ve gotten to connect a couple times.
“It’s only going to keep getting better and better. We’ve only worked together for a couple days now, so we got some time to really dial in on the details.”
The Jaguars are expected to utilize Hunter in a significant role in the offensive game plan due to his big-play ability and as a red-zone threat. The Colorado standout showcased his unique skill set in the 2024 season, posting 96 receptions for 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.
Hunter has participated with the majority of his on-field work within the offense, and he’s also involved in defensive meetings during rookie minicamp.

The Jaguars will likely use him more on offense while sprinkling him in through various spots defensively. There is plenty of expectation for Hunter to quickly step into a prominent role to become a key factor in helping Jacksonville push its way back into the playoffs.
The Jaguars are coming off a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw them fall well short of the postseason after finishing with a 4-13 record.
