Luka Doncic signs lucrative contract extension with Lakers
Six months after being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, superstar Luka Doncic has committed to the team with a lucrative long-term contract extension, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic has agreed to a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension, with a player option in 2028, agent Bill Duffy of WME Basketball told ESPN.
The Lakers have now secured Doncic’s future with the team, which will set him up to sign another massive contract extension in 2028.

Doncic sent out the following statement after inking his new deal with the Lakers. The perennial All-Star appears to be ecstatic about his new deal and being able to play for the iconic franchise for the foreseeable future.
“I’m really grateful to the Lakers organization, my teammates and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one,” Doncic said in a statement. “This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we’re building together. I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud.
“This is just the beginning. I’m excited for what’s ahead and to keep building something special with this team.”
With Doncic’s future with the Lakers secure, the attention turns to LeBron James and whether he’ll be playing his last season in the NBA. The Lakers made a lot of noise recently when they didn’t offer James a new deal, resulting in the superstar opting into the final year of his contract, setting him up to either retire after the 2025-26 campaign or play elsewhere.
