Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson not budging in contract talks
The Cincinnati Bengals and star defensive end Trey Hendrickson still aren’t seeing eye-to-eye when it comes to his contract situation with the team, according to Ben Baby of ESPN.
Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson remains entrenched in his position on not playing in the upcoming season.
Hendrickson spoke to ESPN’s Laura Rutledge in Landover, Maryland, ahead of Cincinnati’s 31-17 preseason win against the Washington Commanders on Monday night, and the core tenets of his stance in his contract negotiations are still intact.
Hendrickson wants to be paid what he believes he’s worth, but the notoriously frugal Bengals don’t seem willing to meet his asking price, even though they agreed to terms with star wide receivers JaMarr Chase and Tee Higgins during the NFL offseason.

It seems the Bengals brass prioritizes bolstering the offense over paying arguably their best defensive player, despite the team being in desperate need of upgrading the defense.
Hendrickson said the following about his contract situation back on July 30 via ESPN.
“Recognition’s not something I’m chasing,” Hendrickson said July 30. “It’s not. I think I’ve made my statements clear. Security is something that I value and [telling] my wife where we’re going to play. Those are the things that matter to me.”
Although these kinds of contract situations in the NFL seem to get resolved ahead of Week 1 on an annual basis, the Bengals might be different, as they have been continuously different when it comes to paying their star players what they are worth, so it’s anyone’s guess where this goes from here with Hendrickson.
