NFL makes ruling on Eagles’ Jalen Carter’s punishment

During the season-opening game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, things got started in the most odd way possible, with Jalen Carter spitting on Dak Prescott, resulting in the defensive star getting ejected.

Carter’s ejection changed the entire game, basically before it even started, as the best defensive player on the field never even got to take a snap. However, the Eagles still came out on top against their arch rivals, but questions lingered about what the NFL would do in terms of punishment for Carter for his actions.

Apparently, the league feels that Carter has served his punishment, given the ejection before playing a snap in Week 1, as he will not be suspended for Week 2, according to ESPN.

Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Carter will not miss any future games for spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

The NFL announced Tuesday that since Carter was ejected from last week’s season opener without participating in a single play, the league would consider the second-year defensive tackle to have already served a one-game suspension.

Obviously, this is great news for Carter and the Eagles heading into Week 2’s Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs. The defending champions will have their best defensive player back on the field for a highly anticipated matchup against Patrick Mahomes and company.

As for the Eagles’ punishment of Carter internally, head coach Nick Sirianni made it clear that any punishment would be kept in-house.

“I’m going to keep everything that I do with him private, regardless of if you see it on Sunday or not,” Sirianni said. “Everything, every conversation, whether it’s a personal conversation, a disciplinary thing, all those things will always be handled privately. I just think that’s the way to go about doing team business and when you’re doing things with a football team.”

With the Eagles not exactly blowing anyone away with their performance in Week 1, it’ll be interesting to see how they play against the Chiefs, who are coming off a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
