49ers suffer big blow with Brock Purdy’s timetable to return
The San Francisco 49ers received some bad news heading into Week 2, with star quarterback Brock Purdy potentially set to miss considerable time with his injuries.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Purdy could be sidelined for over a month, via NFL.com.
The 49ers quarterback is expected to miss 2-5 weeks while dealing with a turf toe variant and an issue in his non-throwing shoulder, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday on Good Morning Football.
49ers general manager John Lynch shares his thoughts on the situation, stating that the team will monitor Purdy’s status every week moving forward.
“What we’re dealing with is kind of a week-to-week thing,” 49ers general manager John Lynch told KNBR later Thursday via NFL.com. “That’s our information. Brock’s doing well, coming back from it. We’ll just treat it as such. He’s doing a nice job, doing everything he can to get back out there as soon as possible. That’s where we’re at.”
Along with Purdy being on the mend moving forward, the 49ers will also have to play without star tight end George Kittle. The veteran pass catcher is dealing with a hamstring injury, which will keep him off the field for at least four games after he was placed on the injured reserve list by the 49ers this week.

These two injuries are devastating blows to a 49ers squad looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 campaign. It remains to be seen how the storied franchise will navigate these latest setbacks and whether it can avoid a rough start to the season without its two best offensive players.
