49ers provide an update on QB Brock Purdy’s status
The San Francisco 49ers may be sporting an undefeated 2-0 record after the first two weeks of the season, but the team is already dealing with some concerning injuries to players like George Kittle and Brock Purdy.
Kittle was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, meaning he will be eligible to return in a few weeks. Purdy, however, is much closer to getting back on the field after missing Week 2’s win against the New Orleans Saints.

In the meantime, the 49ers appear to be planning for Mac Jones to make a second straight start in Week 3, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.
Barring a significant last-minute change, the San Francisco 49ers will start Mac Jones at quarterback for a second consecutive week Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
With Purdy being a limited participant in practice throughout the week, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan believes he might be able to be a backup against the Cardinals.
“I think it’s highly unlikely that he will start,” Shanahan said Friday. “We’re just trying to see where he’s at to see if he can be a [No.] 2 or an emergency [No.] 3.”
Obviously, the 49ers have a better chance of beating their division rivals with Purdy under center, who is itching to get back on the field.
“I want to play every game,” Purdy said. “I want to be out there. You only get 17 regular-season games, and every game matters, especially a divisional [game] going against the Cardinals. If you ask me, I’d love to, but I’m trying to be smart with my body here.”
Suppose Purdy is ultimately ruled out or designated as a backup and doesn’t play in Week 3. In that case, the next opportunity for the star quarterback to get back on the gridiron will be against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4.
