Commanders QB Jayden Daniels will return vs. Chargers
Over the last two weeks, the Washington Commanders have had to play without star quarterback Jayden Daniels, who has been nursing a knee injury. Veteran backup Marcus Mariota has shouldered the load in the meantime, splitting the last two games against the Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons.
Fortunately for Washington, the Commanders will get Daniels back on the field for Week 5’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to John Keim of ESPN.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will start Sunday after missing the past two games with a sprained left knee.
Although the Commanders were taking a cautious approach with their new face of the franchise, Daniels wasn’t thrilled with being forced to sit. And now the rising star isn’t happy with having to wear a knee brace.
“I’m not the biggest fan of it but if that’s what I have to wear then I’ll do anything possible,” Daniels said Wednesday.
Perhaps the happiest person on Dan Quinn’s coaching staff that Daniels is back in the mix this weekend on the road at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles is offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

Kingsbury spoke about Mariota’s performance in Daniels’ absence, and clearly can’t wait to get the team’s star quarterback back under center in Week 5 against a very good Chargers squad.
“He’s played about as well as you can play,” offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said. “They’re different styles and Jayden is a unique talent, the way he plays, moves, throws. He’s generational so any time you get him back out there it’s going to lift up your team.”
The Commanders will head into this game as the underdog, with the Chargers being the favorite (-2.5) as of Friday.
