AFC East Week 15: Jets Still Alive in Playoff Race
What if I told you the New York Jets were still in the AFC Playoff race? What? The Jets are still alive? No way. Yes, they are. Thanks to the Pittsburgh Steelers losing at home to the woeful San Diego Chargers last week and the Cincinnati Bengals losing a nine point fourth quarter lead to the Dallas Cowboys, the Jets at 6-7 after going down and beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 17-10 on Sunday, are only one game out of the second AFC Wild Card spot.
The Indianapolis Colts are solidly in the first AFC Wild Card spot at 9-4. All four Division leaders are up by at least two games with three to play. So the only real drama in the AFC is for the last wild card and which teams will have home field advantage. The Jets at 6-7 have a fairly easy schedule the rest of the way. They are at the 4-9 Tennessee Titans this week, then host the 5-8 Chargers and then close the regular season with the 5-8 Buffalo Bills.
Pittsburgh has a road game at Dallas, then a home game against the Bengals before finishing with the 5-8 Cleveland Browns. The Bengals face the 4-9 Philadelphia Eagles before visiting the Steelers and ending with the division leading 9-4 Baltimore Ravens at home.
Should the Jets and Steelers end up tied, the Steelers have the advantage because they beat the Jets this season. But if the Bengals and Jets end up tied, the two did not play this season, so who knows what that tie breaker will come down to? A three way tie could really get messy. But the Jets have an excellent chance to get to 9-7 which might be good enough to take the last spot. Wouldn’t that be something after all they’ve been through?
