Spurs and Warriors Going Down to the Wire

With a 2-1 series lead, the San Antonio Spurs are in the driving seat.

With a 2-1 series lead, the San Antonio Spurs were in the driving seat. Now after letting Game Four slip away, it is anybody’s series.

The series between the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs is going to go the distance it would appear. Neither team seems to be able to break away from the other. Both teams have spit on each others home court. Both teams have come back late to steal a home win. After four games, the series is knotted at 2-2. So what we have now is a best of three remaining with the Spurs being home the first and third games and the Warriors the second.

San Antonio won Games One and Three and the Warriors Games Two and Four. The Spurs rallied from 14 points down in the last four minutes to force overtime to steal Game One. The Warriors rallied from eight down in the last three minutes to force overtime to steal Game Four. The Warriors beat the Spurs on the road in Game Two by nine points, 100-91 and the Spurs went to Oakland and won Game Three  by 10 points, 97-87.

So the odds for the rest of this series should be fairly even then? Let’s look at Oddsmaker for the odds.

Rather surprisingly, the Spurs are a seven point favorite in Game Five. In Game One they were an 8.5 point favorite while the Warriors were a 2.5 point favorite for Game Three at home. The Warriors have gained a little respect so far in this series, but not as much as we would have thought.

The line is Spurs -7 -110 and Warriors +7 -110 ATS. Moneyline has Warriors +250 and the Spurs -300. Over/Under for Game five is 195.5 with both over and under -110.

Again, we like Golden State with the 7 points. The Spurs won Game Three by 10 points so it is far from a sure thing, but if you look at the four games as a whole, this thing is dead even so far. So if you can get seven points, why not take it? At 195.5, we like the under-110. Defense is going to crank up even more the later the series goes. Offensive rebounds were nearly non-existent late in Game Five. That will likely continue.

If we go to the futures to win the Western Conference, the odds are Golden State at +400 and San Antonio is -130. I know the Spurs have the deciding Game Seven at home, and that is huge, but at +400 we like Golden State. Right now, the Warriors have the best player on the floor in Stephen Curry. In the playoffs, we like the team with the best player.
