The Tennessee Titans need all the luck they can get if they’re going to make a push for the playoffs this season. Unfortunately, the ball hasn’t rolled their way.

According to ESPN, quarterback Jake Locker will likely miss 4-8 weeks with an injured hip suffered in Sunday’s 38-13 win over the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.

Locker’s MRI results showed today that there was trauma to and swelling around the hip, but the initial reports showed inconclusive results. While the Titans don’t think the injury is season-ending, they anticipate putting the quarterback on the injured reserve and that there would be no exact timetable for his return as of now.

“It’s a blow to the team, no doubt about it,” head coach Mike Munchak said Monday afternoon after the test results were announced.

Locker suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s tilt by way of a hit from defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson. The NFL will follow up to see if his hit was considered a fine-able offense, even though it did not draw a flag.

“Obviously, it was unfortunate,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “Clearly, in my opinion, I thought Muhammad did what you’re supposed to do — lower your target. He did that. Obviously, there wasn’t a malicious intent on his part at all. In my opinion, I thought it was a clean hit.”

Locker has outpaced his expectations this season, taking his team to a 3-1 record to start the season. Before his injury, he connected on 18 passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns which resulted in a 130.0 passer rating.

Meanwhile, the Titans will bring on backup quarterback David Carr, who has notched a 59.7 career completion rate and a 74.9 quarterback rating. He has seen some improvement last season, notching a 84.0 quarterback rating, but the Titans are likely to take a hit on the offensive side of the ball.
