Texans Coach Gary Kubiak Collapses At Halftime
Fans in Houston were subjected to a jarring scene at halftime, as head coach Gary Kubiak collapsed while heading to the locker room with his team up over the Colts 21-6. The previously boisterous crowd at Reliant Stadium had gone nearly silent as NBC returned from commercial.
The initial event wasn’t televised live because the network had already broke from the action for halftime coverage, but they did play the footage. Kubiak could be seen walking slowly toward the locker room before hunching over in obvious pain and then eventually collapsing.
On the sideline NBC’s Michelle Tafoya reported the coach was in “extraordinary pain,” noting that, while he was able to communicate with those tending to him, he didn’t appear to open his eyes. At least not that she was able to see from her vantage point.
According to the Texans, Kubiak was taken to a local hospital as a “precautionary measure,” with his family almost immediately by his side. They report that he never lost consciousness and that his heart rate and pulse were both fine.
Exactly what happened to Kubiak remains unknown at this time, but the team insists they know what didn’t happen to him. The only update through the third quarter was that Kubiak did not suffer a heart attack.
At least that’s one thing we can rule out.
