Browns Snap Losing Streak Against Ravens, Steelers Suffer Huge Loss Against the Patriots

For the Cleveland Browns (4-5), it has been a season of quarterback roulette but in Sunday’s 24-18 win over the Baltimore Ravens (3-5), it have landed on a winner, quarterback Jason Campbell.

In a second straight game, Campbell played well, throwing three touchdown passes and going 23 for 35, 262 yards and no interceptions. He got things done using both his arm and legs including three carries for 20 yards.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Campbell on Sunday. In the first quarter he was hit by Ravens nose tackle Haloti Ngata. Enter former starter Brandon Weeden for a few plays before Campbell shook it off and returned, only to be hit in the ribs again later.

Campbell said of the incident via ESPN.com, “I kept telling [the team] to just give me time because my ribs were really bothering and hurting me. It was bothering me on a couple of throws. I really wanted to cut it loose and it was kind of grabbing me. I couldn’t really get what I wanted to put on the ball as far as speed and accuracy sometimes. But this league is all about pressing on.”

After the game, Campbell had X-rays on the ribs; results have not been disclosed.

From the game, he walked away with a 76.5 total quarterback rating (QBR) and with his 60.1 total QBR for the season, he has a league ranking of No.13. This has come from 554 passing yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. This surpasses his teammates quarterback Brian Hoyer and Weeden with their 22nd and 38th total QBR rankings, respectively, according to ESPN Stats.

With the Browns win, it was snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Ravens and a recent three-game skid. The Browns have now jumped over the Ravens in the AFC North race for the second spot behind the Cincinnati Bengals (6-3).

Lucky for the Browns, they now have a bye week and upon returning, they’ll play the Bengals on Nov. 17.

As for the Ravens, they’ve now lost three straight games and sit in the third spot for the division, just one game ahead of the lowly Pittsburgh Steelers (2-6). This is not last year’s Super Bowl team but one constantly making mistakes and looking to possibly not make this year’s playoffs.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco went 24 for 41, 250 yards, two touchdowns and one pick on Sunday with rookie wide receiver Marlon Brown getting both touchdowns. The team’s running game under running back Ray Rice is disappointing. He had 11 carries for 17 yards on Sunday, which represented his lowest rushing total from his six years in the league when he’s amassed double-digit carries.

It appears his hip injury is continuing to linger as he averaged a 1.5 yard per carry on Sunday.

The Ravens know the clock is ticking for them to have a turnaround and after Sunday’s loss, Raven coach John Harbaugh said via The Associated Press, “It’s going to be a challenge. We’re 3-5. We’ve got our work cut out for us.”

Good luck next week as they’ll play the Bengals. For now, the game is too tough to call (even, 44.5 o/u).

In Sunday’s other AFC North game, the Steelers suffered a 55-31 loss against the New England Patriots (7-2). They made it a game in the third quarter, overcoming a 24-10 deficit to make it 24-24 but the Patriots took a 27-24 lead toward the end of it and never looked back.

With the Patriots’ 55 points, it represented the most scored in a league game for the 2013 season and the highest number ever versus the Steelers. The Patriots had 610 yards in the game–No. 3 in the team’s history–and the most ever given up the Steelers.

The season is getting brighter for the Patriots. They sit at 12/1 to win this year’s Super Bowl while the Steelers may be ready for their season to end already.

On Sunday, they’ll play the Buffalo Bills (3-6).
