Fresno State Upset By San Jose State
All the talk of Fresno State crashing a BCS Bowl games will be stopping thanks to a loss to San Jose State on Friday night, 52-62.
Only one game stood between Fresno State to have not only a perfect season, but also a likely trip to a major BCS Bowl game, but underdogs San Jose State decided that they wanted to play spoiler.
It was a duel between quarterbacks Spartan David Fales and Darek Carr of Fresno State in a high scoring affair. In the end Fales threw for 543 yards and lobbed in six touchdowns to edge out Fresno State. Fales was able to match Carr by turning in a near perfect performance. The Spartans may only be 6-6, 4-4 in the Mountain West Division, but they defeated a No. 16 ranked Bulldogs. It was their first win against a ranked opponent since 2000.
Carr’s stats were also impressive with 519 yards and six touchdowns of his own. Â However, it was a fourth quarter interception by Carr that sealed the game for the Spartans.
Now, Northern Illinois is the only team left from a non-automatic qualifying conference to be BCS bowl game eligible.
The Bulldogs will still get a shot at some glory as their record is good enough for them to play in the Mountain West title game next week against either Utah State or Boise State depending how tomorrow’s games play out.
