Jaguars WR Ace Sanders Facing 4-Game Suspension

Following in the unfortunate footsteps of former teammate Justin Blackmon, the Florida Times Union reports that Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Ace Sanders is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on substance abuse.

Sanders, who was drafted out of South Carolina in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, it seems has serious problems that extend well beyond the impending suspension.

It’s not an ideal situation for the Jags, but the good news is that Sanders, unlike Blackmon early on, has publicly acknowledged his problems and vowed to get help. Speaking on the issue Sanders said:

“It’s been really tough. I’ve been dealing with a lot of stuff with life and with family and with a lot of issues going on. I’m talking full responsibilities for my actions and everything I did. I really want to let the fan base know and let my family know and my teammates know … that I am truly sorry for what has happened.”

In addition to his suspension, Sanders will likely miss all of training camp. He is expected to seek treatment for his personal issues—treatment that will include intensive therapy and may be in-patient. No additional details are available at this time.

Also not known is whether or not Sanders will remain in Jacksonville during his leave of absence. He did say that general manager Dave Caldwell and coach Bradley were both very supportive of his situation and course of action.

Although the league has yet to make any announcement regarding the situation, the four games would keep Sanders out of the lineup until the Jaguars game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 5. At that point the team will determine if he’s fit to play.
