Louisville High School Football Game Postponed Because The Purge
Some pretty interesting news out of Louisville to start the weekend.
According to a report in The Courier-Journal, police in the city are taking the threat of a “Louisville Purge†very seriously after rumors spread that life would begin imitating art at 8 p.m. Friday and cease promptly at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
Art, in this case, being based on the ridiculous 2013 movie The Purge and it’s equally ridiculous sequel The Purge: Anarchy, which was released last month.
As usual, the rumor gained momentum on social media, where it quickly became a nationally trending topic on Twitter. Although some motivated jags moved it well beyond hashtags—apparently actual flyers were hung up around the city.
Keep in mind that information comes from a random stranger on Twitter and hasn’t been verified. But at this point in time I have no reason to doubt Mr. Jeremy Daugherty, who seems trustworthy enough.
Concern from local over-reactors and alarmists was serious enough to warrant the postponement of a football scrimmage between two Louisville high schools on Friday night. The general consensus seems to be, better safe than sorry.
Which is probably a solid policy when kids are involved. Not that it makes this whole thing any less insane.
Police are likely to have their hands full overnight, having encouraged residents to call 911 if they see anything suspicious. Panicked parents and easily frightened old people are going to be lighting them up all night.
Rest assured residents of Louisville! No raccoon knocking over garbage cans or nocturnal feline shenanigans will go uninvestigated tonight!
