Yankees Look To Gain Ground In AL Race

As it stands, the New York Yankees are 8.5 games behind in the AL East, with the Baltimore Orioles on top of the division. The Yankees have run into an unlikely road block in their pursuit of the division in the Houston Astros.

The Astros handed the Yanks a loss yesterday. Houston got a ninth inning home run from Chris Carter to pick up the 7-4 win. Not only does this nearly put a division win for the Yankees nearly out of reach, it also put them four games behind in the Wild Card race.

The Yankees will be maximizing their chances at winning tonight by sending Michael Pineda to the mound. Pineda is making his second start since returning from the disabled list.

In his last outing Pineda threw only 67 pitches over five innings, but was dominate in the early go after striking out 12 consecutive batters and held Baltimore to one run on two hits over five innings.

Pineda is 2-2 this season with a 1.82 ERA overall.

The Astros will look to counter with Scott Feldman. Feldman has a 4.45 ERA and in his last outing allowed seven runs and nine hits against the Boston Red Sox. Houston is 8-14 in Feldman’s 22 starts with the team, however, the Yankees seems to struggle against Feldman. Feldman held the Yankees scoreless over six innings on opening day.

The Yankees are the favorite to win this one with a -210 moneyline. The Astros moneyline is set at +185. The game starts at around 6 p.m. ET.
