Gurley Suspension Massive Blow to Georgia Season

Georgia running back and Heisman Trophy hopeful, Todd Gurley has found himself in some hot water. Per an NCAA investigation, Gurley was suspended indefinitely Thursday on the suspicion that he had violated NCAA rules.

While the means of the investigation haven’t been released, sources have indicated that the violation and investigation is surrounding the suspicion that Gurley was given money for autographs, memorabilia or the use of his likeness. Because of NCAA rules, a player must instantly be declared inactive when it is discovered that NCAA rules may have been violated.

Sources have reported to Sports Illustrated that Gurley was paid $400 to sign 80 items on campus one day. There are even reports of video and photos proving Gurley’s violation. If it is true that he accepted payments, Gurley could face multiple game suspension. And, who knows what or if the NCAA would take action on the school – they don’t always follow their own rule book.

This is going to be a big blow for Georgia and the promise that their season has shown so far. Gurley is not only one of the best running backs in the country but a major factor in the Bulldogs success this entire season. The Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 SEC) are ranked No. 13. and face No. 23 Missouri (4-1, 1-0 SEC) this weekend in a big Eastern division match up that will end up being a big factor at the end of the season. This suspension will undoubtedly impact the Bulldog’s approach to the game and missing Gurley could make it more challenging for Georgia to come out with a win.

Gurley on the other hand, just damaged his opportunity at taking home one of the most prestigious individual player awards in college football. Gurley is the SEC’s leading rusher with an average of 154.6 yards per game. Gurley’s 194.6 all-purpose yards ranks second nationally behind Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah who has 195.8.
