Dallas Overthrown as America’s Team
Any fan of professional football can tell you at least five times when they have heard that the reigning team to be considered “America’s Team†was the Dallas Cowboys. Wherever you traveled in the country, you would encounter a Dallas fan, sporting silver and blue, spouting off the top five facts about Tony Romo, the golden years of the 1990’s and how great their linebackers are.
However, a recent Harris Poll revealed that team is not as popular as everyone had believed, the fourth most popular to be exact. They dropped after being named the top team for the past six years for adults who follow professional football.
The team that was actually dubbed America’s Team is the Denver Broncos. Following Denver came the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers, respectively. Rounding out the top five was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tied for last place was the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans, the fourth year in a row for the Jaguars.
Other results from the poll indicate that people believe the Seahawks will be the team to beat once again in the Super Bowl over the Denver Broncos. In fact, nearly one in three people (28%) believe the Seahawks will win the Super Bowl, while (19%) believe that it will be the Denver Broncos. The Harris Poll® surveyed 2,543 adults (1,275 of whom follow professional football) online between September 10-17, 2014.
Since the poll took place prior to the Cowboys beating the Seahawks, it would be very interesting to see what popular opinion is now for who the projected Super Bowl Champions could be.
Do the Cowboys care that they dropped? Most likely not – they are riding on the win over the reigning Super Bowl Champions.
