Florida State Remains Undefeated, Dominates Louisville After Early Scare

After a scoreless first quarter, it was all Louisville during the second quarter of their Thursday night matchup against undefeated ACC opponent Florida State.

The Cardinals struck first at 12:13 of the second with a four-yard touchdown run courtesy of senior running back Michael Dyer. Seven minutes later Dyer struck again, this time on a 12-yard scoring run that put his team ahead 14-0.

Louisville’s secondary got off to a fantastic start against FSU’s Jameis Winston, who was picked off twice in the first half and again in the second. He was kept very much in check early in the game and struggled with the pressure.

The Noles only score of the half came with just 33 seconds remaining, down 21-0 after Will Gardner connected with Gerald Christian on an 11-yard pass less than two minutes prior.

Florida State running back Karlos Williams, who is currently under investigation by Tallahassee police for two serious criminal incidents, fumbled for no gain near the goal line on third down.

Tight end Nick O’Leary jumped on the ball and the Noles were awarded one of the ugliest touchdowns you’ll ever see.

For awhile there it looked like they just might have a chance to end the Noles seemingly unending undefeated streak. And then it changed on a dime in the second half, just as it has so often for Florida State this season.

Florida State got the ball to start the third, but Louisville actually intercepted a Winston pass and looked poised to build on some of that early momentum.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the defensive players tried too hard to play offense and managed to fumble the INT right back to the Noles on the very same play. It was even more of a disaster in retrospect, given the final score.

Louisville was able to stope Florida State on fourth down on the drive and add a field goal, but from that point on it was almost all Seminoles. They scored three touchdowns in relatively quick succession, which put them ahead 28-24 at 12:48 of the fourth.

The Cardinals took the lead again on another Dyer touchdown run at 9:20, which they enjoyed for almost six minutes before the Noles pulled away once and for all. They tacked on two more more late scores, for a final score of 42-31.

It was the story of the season for both teams. 6-3 Louisville is shockingly close to be undefeated and 8-0 Florida State is just as close to being 5-3.
