Jakub Voracek had two of the Flyers four goals, the others were scored by Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Luke Schenn. The Flyers improve to 5-5-2 and will face the Panthers on Thursday. The Flyers lost to the Panthers, 2-1, on Nov. 1.
The Boston Bruins beat the Florida Panthers in overtime on Tuesday night, 2-1. The Bruins are 8-6-0 thanks to the goal by Brad Marchand, 3:27 into overtime play. In the first period, the Panthers scored the first goal to take the lead but the Bruins tied it up less than 3.5 minutes later. The Bruins play the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
Another game decided in overtime came from the Washington Capitals and the Calgary Flames. The Flames won 4-3 thanks to a goal by Sean Monahan, 4:17 seconds into the game. Markus Granlund had an unassisted goal with less than six minutes to go in the third period to send the game into overtime. This game and specifically the second period was very heated with a handful of penalties two majors given out for fighting and several roughing calls.
Another close game was the match-up of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Phoenix Coyotes. Arizona took the lead 3-0 in the second before Dion Phaneuf scored on a power play, a definite weakness of the Coyotes, to make the score 3-1. The Leafs fought back in the third period as well, bringing the game to 3-2 and scoring yet again on a power play. The Coyotes walked away with a win but a definite need to improve on their power play kills.
