Kendrick Perkins ‘committed’ to signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers

After the dust settled on the NBA trade deadline, many teams around the league looked much different after making deals. One of those teams was the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Thunder were apart of a three-way deal that included sending Reggie Jackson to the Detroit Pistons and Kendrick Perkins to the Utah Jazz. Oklahoma City replaced Perkins with the addition of Enes Kanter, but the Jazz won’t be able to hold on Perkins with the one-time NBA champion set to be bought out.

Once Perkins is officially bought out, the veteran center intends to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Royce Young of ESPN:

Center Kendrick Perkins has committed to signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers after he finalized a buyout with the Utah Jazz on Saturday, a source told ESPN.com.

As many title contenders tend to do throughout an NBA season, the Cavs have been gathering up veteran talent all year long in an attempt to come out on top in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland struck gold in the offseason by bringing back superstar LeBron James in free agency and all the pieces have started to fall in place over the course of the season.

Once LeBron committed to Cleveland for a second stint, the Cavs were able to acquire Kevin Love and have been making impactful moves ever since. J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and Timofey Mozgov were also added to the roster earlier in the season making the Cavs a much deeper team off the bench.

Perkins will be a welcome addition for Cleveland as a solid backup behind Mozgov. Perkins has championship experience and is clearly determined to win another championship with his decision to sign with the Cavs over other suitors like the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Cavaliers are currently the fourth seed in the East behind the Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks. Cleveland has won eight of their last 10 games are appear to be hitting their stride at the right time with 26 games to go in the regular season as of Feb. 21.
