Philadelphia Eagles sign WR Miles Austin to one-year deal
The Philadelphia Eagles have made some major moves during the NFL offseason with head coach Chip Kelly wanting to a build a team that resembles something more like his old Oregon Ducks. Although a lot of the moves made have been questionable with Kelly trading both his starting quarterback and running back elsewhere, the master plan might be coming together.
On Monday, it became official that the Eagles had added another veteran into the mix in the form of wide receiver Miles Austin, according to Phil Sheridan of ESPN:
The Eagles signed wide receiver Miles Austin to a one-year contract, according to a report by the NFL Network.
The report said Austin’s deal is worth $2.3 million, with an additional $700,000 in incentives.
The addition of Austin is not considered another game-changer for the Eagles with the veteran struggling with injuries since having a breakout season with the division rival Dallas Cowboys back in 2009.
Last season, Austin played in 12 games for the Cleveland Browns and failed to make an impression. Austin finished with 47 receptions for 568 yards and two touchdowns.
Although Austin didn’t play all that well in Cleveland, the veteran wideout will have an opportunity to resurrect his career in Philadelphia. The Eagles’ high-powered offense could benefit the veteran with Jeremy Maclin no longer on the squad after recently signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Along with Maclin changing teams this offseason, the Eagles will also be without Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy. Kelly let Maclin simply sign elsewhere in free agency while pulling off trades with the St. Louis Rams and Buffalo Bills to send Foles and McCoy packing.
Fortunately for the Eagles, the team was able to sign DeMarco Murray, Ryan Matthews and land quarterback Sam Bradford. It remains to be seen whether these drastic moves payoff for Kelly and company, but there’s no question the Eagles aren’t afraid to shake things up to realize Kelly’s vision.
