49ers QB Colin Kaepernick: ‘I Think The Changes Are For The Good’
The San Francisco 49ers have gone through some drastic changes over the course of the NFL offseason. Many of the team’s best players have either retired or headed elsewhere in NFL free agency. As a result, the team is no longer considered to be among the league’s elite leaving quarterback Colin Kaepernick in a difficult situation.
Although the 49ers roster is almost completely different from last year’s team, Kaepernick remains confident San Francisco will be better off. Kaepernick said the following about the team’s changes, via Charles Whisnand of the Nevada Appeal:
The 49ers have certainly gone through their share of changes during the offseason which Kaepernick noted.
“Very excited for the season,†he said. “A lot of new faces in the locker room and a lot of new coaches. I think the changes are for the good.â€
Anquan Boldin, Vernon Davis and Kaepernick are the most notable offensive players still on the roster. Although Frank Gore and Michael Crabtree are no longer with the team, San Francisco can still be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC.
Along with losing a lot of their core players on both sides of the football, the 49ers still play in the highly competitive NFC West. The defending NFC champion Seattle Seahawks have kept their team relatively intact while also bringing in an offensive game-changer in tight end Jimmy Graham. The Arizona Cardinals will be solid squad once again as well making divisional play as difficult as ever for San Francisco.
It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for the 49ers next season with a revamped roster. There’s no question that despite Kaepernick’s optimism it’ll be an uphill battle for the 49ers.
