Aaron Rodgers Takes Stake in Milwaukee Bucks
For years Aaron Rodgers has spoken of how much he loves the NBA and the Milwaukee Bucks. He has many times said that Vlade Divac was one of his all-time favorite players.
Now the NBA will become even more important to Rodgers as the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers has taken a minority stake in the Milwaukee Bucks.
He is now a limited partner in the ownership group of the Bucks, after an announcement was made late Friday during the Celtic-Bucks playoff game in Milwaukee.
He was introduced during the game, while he sat courtside with Danica Patrick, his girlfriend, and Wes Edens the co-owner of the Bucks. According to the team, Rodgers is the only active player in the NFL with an ownership stake in any NBA team.
The Bucks released a statement by Rodgers that said he has proudly called Wisconsin his home for the last 13 years and is thankful for all the friendships as well as opportunities he has been given to play and live there.
The statement continued by saying becoming a member of the ownership group is a dream come true for him as he is a huge fan of the sport of basketball and the NBA.
Rodgers was born in Chico, California and splits time between Southern California and Green Bay.
The current Bucks ownership group purchased the team in 2014 from former Senator Herb Kohl for $550 million.
Two NBA players, one now retired, have stakes in professional sports teams, but Rodgers becomes the first active player in the NFL to own part of a major pro sports franchise in the same market that he plays in.
LeBron James has held a minority stake in English Premier League club Liverpool FC since 2011. Retired point guard Steve Nash bought a minority share in 2008 of the Major League Soccer club Vancouver Whitecaps, while he was playing in the NBA.
Nash continues to have a stake in the MLS club and has also purchased a stake in Real Mallorca a soccer club in Spain.
