Giants’ Cam Skattebo Makes Stunning Admission About NFL Future
New York Giants second-year running back Cam Skattebo missed most of his rookie campaign because of an open fracture of his right ankle that led him to contemplate retirement.
During a recent interview on the Up and Adams podcast with Kay Adams, Skattebo revealed that he briefly considered retiring shortly after suffering the season-ending injury.
“Like the first month, I was like ‘Damn, do I really want to do this?’ And then it was seven games, you know, I got to go back and play,” Skattebo said via ESPN.
Before Skattebo entered the NFL, he had thought about what he would do if he suffered a significant injury.
“Coming out of college and going into the NFL, I think I gave myself one rule, and it was if I ever got a major injury, I was done playing,” Skattebo said. “And that happened seven games into my career, so it kind of sucked.”
He suffered the injury in the eighth game of the season after recording 617 total yards, including 410 rushing yards, along with seven total touchdowns. He scored at least one touchdown in three different games.
