Aaron Rodgers to Play with Slightly Torn Calf Muscle
On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys will visit the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in an NFC Divisional playoff with the winner meeting the winner of the Carolina vs. Seattle matchup in the NFC Championship.
For once, the headline will not be about the weather at Lambeau field on Sunday. This time all eyes are focused on the left calf of Green Bay star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Doctors on Thursday diagnosed Rodgers with a slight tear in his calf muscle.
It seems as if the Cowboys keep getting the big breaks as it looks as if Rodgers will be far from 100% when the teams meet on Sunday.
Last weekend Dallas was the beneficiary of an official picking up his flag late in the game and reversing a penalty for pass-interference against the team.
Now, this week Aaron Rodgers’ health is giving the Cowboys a break. While it is likely the former NFL MVP is going to be in the starting lineup on Sunday versus Dallas, he will be far from 100%.
According to one national sports network, Rodgers suffered a slight tear in his left calf and the muscle is said to be significantly strained in addition to torn.
Rodgers suffered the calf injury in the season final for Green Bay against Detroit on December 28.
That was the last time, until Thursday, that Rodgers had either practiced of played.
Rodgers on Thursday returned to work. However, he only took about 50% of the first team snaps according to his coach Mike McCarthy.
That had been a preset target for Rodgers for the day and at least he was able to meet that.
McCarthy added that Rodgers practiced during the team sections of practice and looked solid.
McCarthy said that Rodgers was able to complete everything his coaches had planned for him in practice.
On the practiced report for Green Bay, Rodgers is listed as being “limited†and likely will stay at that point on Friday and Saturday, leading up to Sunday’s kickoff.
Doctors and trainers for Green Bay are said to be treating Rodgers’ calf muscle aggressively in hope the quarterback will be close to full strength for the game on Sunday.
Coach McCarthy said it is obvious how important Rodgers is to the team. Rodgers insisted on Thursday that he would play.
Rodgers told reporters that he was be on the field Sunday, he just had to figure what the best way to accomplish that was.
Rodgers’ playoff career began with four wins in five games of which a Super Bowl was one of the wins. However, since then he has won once in four games.
This current injury will not make things easy for Rodgers as he tries to reverse the trend of playoff losses of late.
