Aaron Rodgers Will Start For Green Bay This Weekend
After weeks of speculation and conjecture about the status of Packers starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers—speculation and conjecture that recently started to take a turn for the ugly—fans in Green Bay received the best possible Christmas present this week.
On Christmas Eve Rodgers promised a “definitive conclusion” would be reached on Thursday, and that’s exactly what he delivered. Today it was announced that he would, in fact, start against the Bears on Sunday with a division title and a spot in the postseason on the line.
With the bumbling Lions being kind enough to lose themselves out of playoff contention, the stage is set for a dramatic win-and-get-in showdown between these two old school rivals. Made all the more dramatic now that we know it will be Rodgers, rather than Matt Flynn, lining up behind center for Green Bay.
You could say The Pack owes the Bears one, considering their perennial Pro Bowl starter’s last game was played in Chicago on November 4th. Rodgers suffered a fractured left collarbone on a sack by defensive end Shea McClellin on the opening drive of that meeting.
As has been the case in recent weeks, Rogers wasn’t particularly forthcoming in discussing his health with the media. When asked about any potential risks he was facing in his return, he declined to comment. Rogers also wouldn’t speak about the possibility of wearing specialized padding to protect his collarbone.
The only thing he really would say is that he’s excited to be back in the lineup. And whether or not he’s 100 percent, you can bet everyone in Green Bay is excited to have him back too. Because Aaron Rodgers at 70 percent is better than Matt Flynn at 150 percent.
