Bears QB Jay Cutler On Matt Forte: ‘I Wouldn’t Trade Him For Anybody Else’
The trade deadline in the NFL is on Tuesday with some rumors floating around about the availability of two-time Pro Bowl running back Matt Forte. As one of the best offensive weapons in the NFL, Forte could draw considerable interest on the trade market between now and the deadline, even at the age of 29 (30 on Dec. 10).
Although Forte is arguably the team’s best trade chip, veteran quarterback Jay Cutler doesn’t want his longtime teammate in Chicago going anywhere. Cutler says he wouldn’t trade the veteran back for anyone in the NFL, via Bears Senior Writer Larry Mayer.
“I wouldn’t trade him for anybody else,” Cutler said. “He’s a three-down back. He does so much protection-wise. He does so much in the passing game. You can line him up in all different scenarios, all different sets. He gets the job done. He’s kind of a security blanket for us.”
The Chicago Bears are 2-4 on the season and are headed into a crucial divisional matchup with the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8. According to Sportsbook.ag, the Bears are slight underdogs at home with the Vikings sporting a -1.5 point spread heading into the divisional showdown on Sunday in the Windy City.
Another loss on the year may force the front office in Chicago to make a move if the feel as if the season is a lost cause. Forte will become a free agent in the offseason meaning this may be the last time the team has a chance to trade him and get value in return.
Forte will be one of the most sought after free-agent running backs on the open market along with Chris Ivory of the New York Jets and Doug Martin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Chris Johnson (Arizona Cardinals), Reggie Bush (San Francisco 49ers), James Starks (Green Bay Packers), Alfred Morris (Washington Redskins), Lamar Miller (Miami Dolphins), Ronnie Hillman (Denver Broncos), and LeGarrette Blount (New England Patriots) will alsobe available.
