Carmelo Anthony Says Knicks ‘Gotta Do Something’ In NBA Free Agency
The New York Knicks are headed for another disappointing end to an NBA season. Despite a decent start to the 2015-16 campaign with a talented rookie emerging in Kristaps Porzingis, New York has struggled once again and hope to turn things around this summer.
Apparently, superstar Carmelo Anthony isn’t happy with the way things have been going since he resigned with the team a couple of years ago. Outside of Porzingis showing star potential, the Knicks haven’t improved much and will need to make a splash in NBA free agency to right the ship as quickly as possible.
Anthony’s frustration is starting to come to the surface with the veteran forward wanting the team to improve in the offseason via ESPN’s Ian Begley:
“It’s in their court. The ball is in their court,” Anthony said. “They have an opportunity, we have an opportunity to do something this offseason. We gotta do something. It’s there.”
The Knicks will have their opportunities to improve the team in free agency over the summer with about $18 million at their disposal. Although the team isn’t exactly an attractive destination considering the team’s current situation, the city of New York will always be a selling point for Phil Jackson and company.
The biggest name on the free-agent market this summer will be superstar Kevin Durant. It’s a long shot, to say the least that the Knicks could land Durant in free agency, but there are other options to upgrade the squad.
DeMarr DeRozan (Toronto Raptors), Al Horford (Atlanta Hawks), Pau Gasol (Chicago Bulls), Dwight Howard (Houston Rockets), Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat), Mike Conley (Memphis Grizzlies), and Hassan Whiteside (Miami Heat) are among the players expected to hit the open market. Howard has already been linked to the Knicks with a rumor circulating about his interest in signing with the team in free agency, but there’s no guarantee the veteran center or any of the players mentioned chooses New York over another team.
