Dallas Cowboys Acquire WR Brice Butler In Deal With Oakland Raiders
The Dallas Cowboys pulled off an impressive come-from-behind win against the division rival New York Giants in their Week 1 showdown at Cowboys Stadium, but it came at a cost. The Cowboys lost All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant to a foot injury that required surgery. Bryant will miss an extended amount of time forcing the hand of Jerry Jones.
According to Todd Archer of ESPN, the Cowboys have acquired wideout Brice Butler from the Oakland Raiders:
After working out four veteran wide receivers Tuesday in their search to make up for the impending absence of Dez Bryant, the Dallas Cowboys acquired Brice Butler in a trade with the Oakland Raiders for a conditional pick in 2016.
The Raiders had a surplus at the wide receiver position with Butler basically on the bubble for the last few weeks. Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, Rod Streater and Seth Roberts led the way in the receiving corps with Andre Holmes and Butler on the outside looking in.
As for the Cowboys, losing Bryant is a devastating blow without many other dependable options outside of veteran tight end Jason Witten. Terrance Williams will help pick up the slack for the absent Bryant while Butler gets his shot to shine in Dallas as another target for quarterback Tony Romo in the passing game.
During his two-year stint in Oakland, Butler played in 25 games catching 30 passes for 383 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
In Week 2, the Cowboys will face another NFC East division rival in the form of the Philadelphia Eagles. Chip Kelly’s Eagles are coming off a disappointing loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night and will be looking to impose their will on the division leaders without their best offensive weapon on the field.
