Daniel Jones Backed To Succeed With New Look Giants Team

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been backed by co-owner John Mara to succeed in the future.

In 14 games last year, Daniel Jones threw 11 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions. He’s thrown 35 touchdowns and 22 picks in two seasons.

The Giants are 8 – 18 with Daniel Jones as a starter. However, Mara said his position is not under question yet.

“We think the world of Daniel,” Mara said.

“We want to see him take the next step. I don’t have any specific benchmarks other than, let’s win some more games.”

“He’ll have a better team around him this year than he’s had in previous years, so we certainly expect him to take that next step. I want to see him continue to improve because I do think he has what it takes to be a long-term winner in this league.”

Among Jones’ new weapons next season are WR Keny Golladay and cornerback Adoree’ Jackson. As well as that, the Giants re-signed DL Leonard Williams, for a total of $110 million in guaranteed money.

New York has also added TE Kyle Rudolph ($12 million), WR John Ross ($2.5 million) to go with the return of Saquon Barkely. It’s an unprecedented spending spree for the franchise with one goal: win.

The Giants have gone 18-46 since 2016, and have had seven losing seasons in the past eight years. They are tied with the New York Jets for the worst record in the NFL in that time.

“It’s time for us to start winning,” Mara said. “That’s one of the reasons we spent the money we did.

“I’m tired of the losing and having a postseason press conference trying to explain what went wrong and why I think we’re making progress.

“I think we’re moving in the right direction, but it’s been brutal the last few years. We’re looking forward to turning it around and not having to make excuses for why we haven’t done it.”
