DeSean Jackson Robbed Of Stuff That Probably Should’ve Been At The Bank

6a019aff7e1054970d01a5100feef9970c-800wi (1)The South Philadelphia home of Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson was robbed over the weekend, with the burglars making off with over $250,000 in cash and jewelry. Also reported stolen was a silver 9 mmm handgun.

Although Jackson said via Twitter that he’s keeping a smile on his face, he’s probably been asking himself, “Who the $*&! just robbed me?” That’s a fair question, but the incident actually raises a lot of other questions too.

Before I get into those, let me just clarify that I’m not trying to trivialize or mock Jackson’s misfortune. He may be a very highly paid professional athlete, but that doesn’t mean he deserves to get ripped off by some opportunistic jagweeds.

That being said, judging by the police reports (as reported by ESPN), it does seem like this probably could have been prevented had better judgement been exercised. Perhaps they haven’t released all the details as yet, but so far it’s a real head-scratcher.

Let’s review:

1. The most obvious question is why the hell does DeSean Jackson have a quarter million dollars worth of cash and jewelry in his house to begin with. The great thing about banks these days is they have places to store your money and your valuables.

Theres just no reason to keep that kind of loot in your home. And considering all the trouble Will Smith got into living (born and raised!) in South Philadelphia, there’s no reason to think that Jackson is going to be anymore responsible.

2. Let’s shelve the bank thing for a moment. We know Jackson gave at least a little time and thought into protecting his valuables because there is a safe in his home. In fact, the safe is where police said the cash and jewelry were actually taken from.

The thing about safes is…they only work if you lock them and don’t tell everyone the code. Which means Jackson either left the safe wide open or the robbery was an inside job.

3. Further suggesting it was an inside job is the fact that there were no signs of forced entry at the home. Jackson was in Miami all last week—something his friends would be well aware of—and the burglary was actually discovered by his mother.

Jackson’s mother confirmed that some of her son’s friends did, in fact, have access to the house while he was away. Although there are currently no (official) suspects in the ongoing investigation.

4. This is really the most important question, particularly if it turns out that he was targeted by a friend or even a casual acquaintance. Who the $*%! is DeSean Jackson hanging out with? Because it seems like they suck.

Often times athletes have trouble cutting ties with some of the unsavory people in their lives, which is kind of commendable in a way. Loyalty is an underrated virtue. It can also be kind of stupid if they are the type of people that like to rob other people.

Jackson has since issued a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of his stolen items, but he might want to focus his efforts a little closer to home. If it turns out he was in any way acquainted with the person/people responsible for the break in, it’s only a matter of time before he’s victimized again.

And to clarify once again, he is a victim. Being rich doesn’t make him deserving of something like this. Being stupid, on the other hand, is a different story altogether. If it happens again…well then we can all feel free to laugh at him.
