Giants owner John Mara wants Eli Manning back in 2018

There’s no question that this season has been nothing short of disastrous for the New York Giants.

Though it’s been week after week of lows for the G-Men, the rock-bottom was Week 13 benching of quarterback Eli Manning, which broke his extraordinary 210 consecutive week start streak.

In the days after being benched by (then) coach Ben McAdoo, speculation began to run wild that Manning would be playing or another team come 2018..

But if Giants owner John Mara has his way, Manning won’t be going anywhere.

There is a lot of gray area here. A new general manager and coach could certainly try to draft a rookie quarterback in 2018. The Giants’ current 2-11 record will help earn them an early enough draft pick to target a top quarterback prospect next spring.

Then there will be second-year quarterback Davis Webb still in the mix. The Giants’ quarterback situation will surely be one that will heat up once 2017 is over.

Manning turns 37 in January and is signed only through the 2019 season.

There’s also a pretty significant out for the team after next year.
