Jason Witten Returning to Dallas Cowboys

On Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys announced that Jason Witten would return to the team. Witten will leave the Monday Night Football booth and returning to the playing field just one season after retiring from the game.

Sources said the tight end would sign a one-year contract for $3.5 million that could reach $5 million with incentives and roster bonuses.

Witten played 15 years with Dallas and played in 11 Pro Bowls. He ended his career as the franchise leader in receptions with 1,152, which is fourth in the history of the NFL and a total of 12,448 yards receiving.

Witten holds the Cowboys records for games played at 239, consecutive games played at 236, starts at 229 and consecutive starts at 179.

Witten, who turns 37 in May, released a statement that said he has a fire inside of him to complete and play in the NFL again that is very strong.

Before Witten decided to become a football television analyst last May he was undecided about leaving football until he signed with Monday Night Football for four years.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he has known for two weeks that Witten was seriously considering returning and added that the Cowboys organization is happy Witten will return.

Jones added that he believes Witten will be more than just a situational player.

During the NFL season in 2018, rumors swirled about Witten returning to the Cowboys but he remained on as an analyst.

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said he is excited Witten will return and added he knows that Witten can still play the game at a very high level.
